Investigating the dark areas, the cavernous spaces and crumbling walkways of Prospect Park is to look at a different cultural landscape, one mostly hidden from general view. Under a dark canopy of trees, behind stones and in the shadows are other culturally constructed spaces – politically contested amorous places, meeting places, contemplative spaces away from the open vibrant areas of the park. The vernacular of the public park, where everything is on view, is that of secret here.
Dogs and families are absent. Passer's through pass by, unaware of a wink and a nod to the thrill seekers wishing to keep from public view. The tunnels and out-of-view wild spaces of the park have a joie d'vie of their own.
